COVID-19 Vaccine FAQs

COVID-19 Vaccine Frequently Asked Questions

Allergy and Asthma Associates is fielding a large number of calls and questions regarding the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines.  At this time, we are responding to COVID-19 vaccination questions with the following statement.  We hope the following answers your questions and addresses your concerns.

Can I get the COVID-19 vaccination at Allergy and Asthma Associates (AAA)? At this time AAA does not have the vaccine and for the time being AAA will not be providing the vaccination in our office.  AAA has registered with the Virginia Dept of Health to receive vaccines, but we have no timeline on when to expect them.  It’s possible that AAA may not have the vaccination until this summer 2021.

Should I get the COVID-19 vaccine, and which one should I get? AAA strongly recommends that all of our patients, including those with a history of anaphylaxis, immune deficiency, or adverse reactions to other vaccinations, receive either of the currently available vaccines for COVID-19. The only exception would be if you have a known polyethylene glycol (PEG) or polysorbate allergy – these allergies are extremely rare.

Are there extra precautions I should take with the vaccination?  If you have an epinephrine pen, please bring this with you to the vaccination appointment and wait 30 minutes after receiving your vaccine.  You should expect a sore arm, low grade temperatures, body aches and fatigue for several days after the vaccination – this is expected and evidence that the vaccination is stimulating your immune system in the expected way.  Please also see the following information sheets about each vaccine:

What category group am I in?  This depends on your age, job, and health status. Depending on where you live you may be eligible for a vaccination.  Please check your local county health department to register for a vaccine. Also please reference this page to calculate what vaccination group you fall into:

We sincerely hope this answers your questions. If you have additional questions or concerns we are happy to schedule you a telemedicine visit with the next available AAA provider. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please respond to this message or call our office.
